Good Doctors With Good News :)

Mom had some good news from the radiation doc (Mom affectionately refers to as the Butt Doctor) today. Butt doc said that right now they are radiating a wide area around the tumor but that towards the end they will narrow the xrays to target the tumor. This means that the burns on her bikini line and problems elsewhere will not be in the line of fire as it is now. She said when they narrow the focus, it is called Boost. Hip Hip Hooray for Boost. She's not quite there yet and the effects will continue to worsen with each treatment but it won't last clear through the next 17 sessions. Relief is closer than we thought.

I can't say enough about the Butt Doctor and am thrilled she's back. Mom could not have gotten any better. Oh, and the cool technician dude is back too.


Mom has appt with oncologist at 1:30, hope it's a good one too!

Mom's been in hospital since Friday. Safety net feels good. Think everything is going well. She's continued to run fever of 100 to 102. Blood Pressure 105/46 at 5:00 today (normal is 120/80), pulse rate tonight is 110(normal is 78). Nurse says elevated pulse rate is from pain and anxiety. Not sure about low blood pressure, dehydration is not a problem b/c she's getting fluid from IV regularly. She's had 4 units blood (think red blood cells, hemoglobin) on Saturday. Urine specimens and blood tests have all come back clean until today. They are taking blood from PICC and blood straight from arm. Blood from PICC showed infection (Gram and Cocci in clusters) not sure what that means but nurse wrote it down for me. They gave her antibotic shot called vancomycin for that. they are giving other antibiotics ; Alvelox , Mystatin and Flogyl . She had a phosphorus drip in IV earlier today b/c low electrolytes. Tutoring Moments

There's been so many blogable moments at home and work lately. Right now, I've got an after-school program going in town. There are over 100 students attending at an elementary school. Before Spring Break, I was called to the Kindergarten classroom. Let me just say, God Bless Kindergarten teachers! I don't know how they do it. This student was drawing on the walls and running around the room totally out of control. Once in the hallway, the teacher was giving me all the gory details as he went to his locker, threw everything out, stomped in and shut the door. The teacher said, "Well at least he's contained" and went back into her room. There I am in the hallway, 10 minutes before tutoring is over, trying to coax a stubborn 5 year old from his locker. Knowing he had the upper hand, he refused to budge from his locker and wasn't scared to tell me in so many Kindergarten words! I called his mama and held the phone to his ear. I couldn't believe it. Shawndra Turner

When we found out that mom would battle colon cancer, I spent hours researching on-line. I found several blogs that provided so much information on what we would face. Shawndra and Michele were so inspiring, I have both their blogs listed on this page. Michele's blog is titled "After the Fight" which as you can gather means she beat it. Shawndra , I believe, is victorious as well just not in the physical sense as Michele. The last few posts on her blog have been heartbreaking.
